Nelson youth engages with community through volunteer programme

Volunteer Nelson offers a wide range of services to the Nelson Tasman community, helping to connect the community. They also provide support for volunteering through training, information, advice and hosting events which celebrate volunteers. Strengthening community organisations through low cost training, confidential mentoring service for staff and board/committee member is a focus as well as providing Information sharing and networking opportunities.

They have worked hard to build awareness amongst young people around the benefits of volunteering. Young Leaders complete a Level 3 Qualification in Youth Work where they learn about leadership and groups, social work, mentoring, project planning and risk management. They then mentor them to run or support the running of a volunteering project involving other young volunteers.

This video tells the story of one group of young volunteers and what their involvement in Volunteer Nelson has meant to them.
