Dr David Ivory

David was appointed to the Rata Foundation in November 2022.

He is experienced in holding governance roles and is a commercial practitioner.

David has experience in various governance roles within the education sector ranging from community-centered education to the tertiary level.

He is currently a ministerial appointee on several South Island Kura boards. He is presently an appointed Commissioner working alongside the Christchurch City Council and is involved in the governance of regulatory authorities, including the Kaunihera Manapou - New Zealand Paramedic Council and Te Kaunihera Rātā o Aotearoa - The Medical Council of New Zealand.

David is also a Trustee of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust and Lottery Canterbury/Kaikōura Community Committee.

What motivated you to be involved with the Rātā Foundation Board?

A passion for kaitiakitanga.

What are you most passionate about supporting in the community?

Health, education, and housing are the building blocks of civil society. There needs to be equity in accessing these iho needs, and they must be of the highest quality. I believe everybody is entitled to live a full life and be a valued participant in a community that embraces equity and equality of opportunity.

What is one of Rātā Foundations’ greatest achievements and/or projects?

I believe one of the most outstanding achievements for Rātā is its sustainable presence which continues to nourish community needs with support and adds value to civil society.
