About Us

We strive for an equitable and sustainable society under the korowai of Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Rātā Foundation is the South Island's most significant community investment fund.

Rātā manages a $685 million pūtea, generating over $20 million per annum to invest into its funding regions of Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and the Chatham Islands.

At Rātā, our work is driven by evidence.  Our funding makes the biggest difference in the lives of people with greatest need.

We partner with communities and stakeholders to help create an equitable and sustainable society.  By working together, we make an impact in people’s lives.  So, people are empowered to thrive.

As a significant, long-term investor, we think and act with an intergenerational mindset.

Smart, values-based investment management is critical to how we deliver long-term community impact.

We build strategic and innovative partnerships that not only maximise social impact – but sustain it.

We walk alongside and strengthen community organisations.  So, those at the heart of their communities are empowered to make a difference.

Since its inception in 1988, Rātā has invested over $550 million through our community investment programme to empower people to thrive.
