At Rātā we believe everyone deserves a safe, secure, and affordable home and that housing is a key determinant of well-being.
We aim to support families and whānau into stable housing solutions by:
- Supporting people into progressive home ownership through shared equity or buy-to-rent opportunities
- Supporting affordable rental opportunities that offer stability and support for whānau
- Helping whānau build readiness and financial capability to enable them to enter the housing market or afford rentals.
As a grant-maker and financial investor we have a perspective that cuts across financial and social return. We use a mix of grants, loans, and long-term financial investments to deliver housing outcomes, partnering with iwi, community housing providers, and government.
Data and evidence supports our decision making
Evidence plays a big part in our community investment decisions. Research we commissioned in 2022 helped us identify affordable rental (80% of market rates) and progressive home ownership as significant gaps in the current housing continuum where our funding and investment could enable projects that might otherwise not be viable.
Another area where evidence showed we could make a difference is supporting whānau to develop financial capability and capacity to help them reach their housing goals.
We are partnering with ImpactLab to develop a new housing measure which will help us better understand the social value of housing for various population groups.
New development building a thriving community in the East
A new 10-unit development in East Christchurch features affordable social housing and aims to address the pressing need for quality rentals in the area.
