Strengthening the Sector

Our Strengthening the Sector programme supports organisations to build capability and capacity, within a supportive and mana-enhancing funding context.

To enable long-term sustainability and create conditions for community organisations to thrive, Rātā invests in opportunities to strengthen the community sector.

Rātā supports a number of capability-building programmes tailored to meet the needs of grassroots not-for-profit organisations. Rātā also supports organisations whose focus is on building capacity in the sector. We support a range of areas including governance, financial capability, volunteering, fundraising and climate change.

We can also provide Strengthening the Sector Grants for organisations which have a long-term funding relationship with Rātā and are looking to enhance their effectiveness so that they can extend the impact they have on the communities they serve.

Organisations need to be clear on the outcomes they are looking to achieve and how they would implement any change. A discussion with a Community Engagement Advisor is the first step.

Our approach to strengthening the community sector focuses on three key areas:

Fostering a supportive, mana-enhancing funding context, which strengthens and supports organisations’ effectiveness and growth.

Supporting organisations to access organisational, professional and leadership development opportunities to enhance their effectiveness.

Supporting organisations to develop knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver on their aims and to manage their organisations effectively.
