Capacity

undefined

We support organisations to access organisational, professional or leadership development opportunities to enhance their effectiveness. Often these activities involve partnerships with other funders and other sector based capacity building organisations.

Examples of these include:

The Leadership in Communities Project (LinC) in Canterbury. We support the LinC project. The vision of LinC is to support people to be Thriving Leaders Active in their local communities.

In Nelson/Tasman, Marlborough and Christchurch, we are working in partnership with local councils, DIA and local capacity building organisations to engage with the community and understand their needs and aspirations to support the strengthening of the community sector. From this initial work, we have or are developing local action plans to support this mahi.

Support to Individual Organisations

Through our engagement with funded organisations, we may identify potential areas for development. These might be a strength which needs further support or is a current challenge for the organisation.

We will endeavour to work alongside these organisations to explore what capacity building opportunities could support them to work on these specific areas, and together develop a plan to address these. A small level of funding may be available to support this work and this funding would be considered outside an organisation’s business as usual funding.

Please check our What’s On page for updates on workshops and training taking place in our regions.

Catalyst Grants

Catalyst grants are designed to support your organisation to become more enterprising.

We recognise the current funding environment and a desire from community organisations to find more sustainable means of funding.

An identified barrier for community organisations developing social enterprises is often a lack of time or capacity to develop their concept. A catalyst grant can act as seed funding to support small-scale enterprise get up and running.

We will provide ‘Catalyst Grants’ for existing Rātā Foundation funded organisations. This funding support is considered outside an organisation’s business as usual funding.

Consideration

To be considered for a ‘catalyst grant’ organisations will need to demonstrate:

  • Current funding from Rātā Foundation
  • Willingness to diversify income streams
  • Ability to demonstrate social outcomes
  • Ability to demonstrate financial and business capability
  • Willingness to work with a support organisation e.g. Akina, Community Mentors, Social Enterprise Institute, Ministry of Awesome and local social enterprise networks where you are.
  • Market opportunity, which may include social procurement opportunities

Grants can be in the range of $5,000 to $15,000.

If you are a Rātā Foundation funded organisation and would like to find out more please speak to one of our Community Engagement Advisors.
